The floriated cross, a design rarely seen on saucer brooches, is made prominent in Finest pewter relief.
So-called for their flared rim, and worn in pairs at the shoulder to hold dresses up, saucer brooches were the most common form of brooch worn by Anglo-Saxon women. The Museum’s gilt bronze brooch which features the motif is early Anglo-Saxon, from 5th century Britain.

Our collaboration draws on the public institution’s vast collection of over 8 million artefacts, documenting the story of human culture from its earliest days to the present. Each piece is marked with the British Museum logotype.
Our high-quality cast pewter consists of 92% to 97% tin, which is the highest international standard for pewter, with a small proportion of copper and antimony added to strengthen the alloy.
